US companies with 100 or more employees are required to submit an EEO-1 report to the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) annually. The report breaks down respective workforces by gender, race, and ethnicity across 10 job categories, providing a granular, intersectional snapshot that allows for apples-to-apples comparisons across companies and industries.
In 2019, only 25 S&P 500 companies and 28 Russell 1000 companies publicly released their full EEO-1 data. By 2025, nearly 80% of 500 companies and half Russell 1000 companies disclosed the data. After a recent pullback, those figures fell to just under 60% of the S&P 500 and 37% of the Russell 1000.
PeopleReturn tracks company-reported data that aligns with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) job categories and demographic categories, ranging from full, certified EEO-1 reports to limited, non-intersectional reporting for select job categories from sources including ESG/CSR publications diversity sites and reports.
