A Partnership Between PeopleReturn and Thirty Percent Coalition
Today, we’re announcing a partnership between Thirty Percent Coalition and PeopleReturn. Thirty Percent Coalition will use PeopleReturn data as the foundation for its advocacy work to increase diversity on corporate boards.
Thirty Percent Coalition is a group of institutional investors, asset owners, asset managers, and private equity firms representing over $8 trillion in AUM that is working to increase diversity on corporate boards.
“As our country becomes more diverse, the consumer base is becoming more diverse, and it’s important to have people on your board who understand your consumers. So there are lots of different reasons that it’s absolutely just a smart business decision, which is why our members, who are some of the largest asset owners and asset managers in the country, are calling on companies to do this.” –Julie Zuraw, CEO and Founder of Thirty Percent Coalition
Thirty Percent Coalition’s mission is to achieve 30% gender and racial diversity across the corporate boards and senior leadership of public companies in the U.S.
Thirty Percent Coalition will leverage PeopleReturn data to determine the performance of America’s largest companies. Then, it will engage with corporate leaders, institutional investors, and policymakers to promote change and foster diverse and inclusive boardrooms in laggard companies.
Thirty Percent Coalition
The Thirty Percent Coalition implements various initiatives, including its Adopt-a-Company program, to promote boardroom diversity through strategic partnerships with institutional investors, corporate executives, and advocacy groups. These efforts include direct engagement with companies and advocacy for policy changes that support more inclusive corporate governance.
“Our members are encouraging the companies in their holdings to diversify their boards, and we do something every year called Adopt-a-Company campaign, where we look at laggards. This year, we looked at the Russell 3000, those who do not seem to have diversity on their boards and do not disclose diversity metrics. We send them a letter on behalf of the entire coalition, and our members will each adopt a company or more to do deeper engagement with.” –Julie Zuraw, CEO and Founder of Thirty Percent Coalition

Building The Right Teams For The Future
“If you’re looking to the future in this very uncertain time in terms of technology and AI, in terms of political movements around the world, and how our political environment is going to look, if you’re looking forward in terms of the mandates that already exist in other parts of the world around board diversity, we’re very much behind.
There are lots of ways in which the stereotypical homogeneous American corporate board is not prepared for the future. It’s really about beyond even the research. It’s about how are we managing risk here, and do we have the right team not for 40 years ago but for 40 years in the future.” –Julie Zuraw, CEO and Founder of Thirty Percent Coalition
As businesses face an increasingly complex and rapidly changing global landscape, the need for diverse perspectives at the highest levels of decision-making has never been more critical. This partnership addresses current disparities and looks ahead, preparing companies to navigate future challenges and opportunities better.
